smpFacebooklogoOur default scanning resolution is 600 DPI.

DPI means Dots Per Inch. It’s the measurement of the density of an image – how many dots will fill a single line that’s an inch wide. The higher the DPI, the larger the image file created will be and the sharper it will look.

Many photo scanning services offer 300 DPI as standard and charge extra for 600 DPI scans. We believe that it’s important you get images you can use for a variety of purposes, so scan at 600 DPI to ensure they look as good as they can if you’re going to re-print them or display them on a large screen such as a television.

But please remember that the quality and size of the prints you will be able to reproduce will depend upon both the quality of the original photo – not just the resolution we’ve scanned it at.

  • We do offer a 1200 DPI scanning service, should you need it. An extra one-off fee is payable for this as a special order. Please contact us if you would like more details. 1200 DPI scans will create bigger files but if you have excellent quality original photographs the higher resolution will enable you to create poster-sized images from your pictures, or provide files suitable for professional printing purposes.
